Following an impressive showing in the Soweto Derby last weekend, Paseka Mako is looking for a repeat performance, but with a better outcome when Amakhosi face Siwelele in the quarterfinals of the Carling Knockout Cup at the New Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane on Sunday.

The 32-year-old has made a useful contribution to Chiefs’ start to the season when operating at left-back and feels he has more to offer as the campaign progresses, telling www.kaizerchiefs.com, “I am getting to the physical level I want to be at. Game by game I feel stronger.”

Beginning the season with an eight-game unbeaten streak, Amakhosi are committed to converting the numerous draws in that run into victories going forward, as Mako explains, “We are a unified group. Everyone is doing their best, and we are all working tirelessly towards achieving the same goal. It has just been unfortunate that we haven’t got the results we feel our performances deserve, but if we keep up our efforts, they will come. Consistency is key, and we want good performances every game.”

A win on Sunday will raise hopes within the Club, as well as among the fanbase, that Amakhosi can go all the way to glory, yet Mako cautions that there is hard work to be done against Siwelele before thinking too far into the future.

“We aim to win this trophy, but we’re not getting ahead of ourselves, and all that is on our minds is to get through this quarterfinal. They are difficult opponents, and we are aware of some of their strengths, but our primary focus is always on our own strategy of how to impose ourselves on them and win the match. We need to concentrate the whole time on executing what the coaches have told us,” he says.

The Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinal between Kaizer Chiefs and Siwelele at the New Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane kicks off at 18:00 on Sunday, 8 November.

Tickets are available only online @ Open Tickets, costing R100 each.
