Numerous Kaizer Chiefs players were involved in the final qualifying round for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, doing duty for South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Nigeria.

Bruce Bvuma and Daniel Cardoso were in the Bafana Bafana squad that ensured qualification in Group E after beating Libya 2-1 away in their final match. The Amakhosi duo, however, were not included in the matchday squad.

Khama Billiat scored a goal to help Zimbabwe beat Congo 2-0 in their final Group G match. Teenage Hadebe marshalled the defence, ensuring a clean sheet for Zimbabwe. Former Glamour Boy, Knowledge Musona, netted the other goal.

Virgil Vries was not in goal when Namibia gained qualification on goal difference in Group K. Namibia lost 4-1 against a rampant Zambia but did enough in the previous rounds to earn a ticket to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Daniel Akpeyi was part of the already qualified Nigerian team that beat Seychelles 3-1 in Group E.

The Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place in Egypt from 21 June to 19 July 2019.

Meanwhile, a fruitful FIFA week was completed by an aggregated lead for South Africa’s Under-23 over Angola in Olympic qualifiers. Siyabonga Ngezana was part of the travelling squad, although the Chiefs defender didn’t feature in the game that took place in Luanda on Friday.

The second leg of this second-round qualifier will take place on 26 March at Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg.
