Kaizer Chiefs are in Cape Town this afternoon to face Stellenbosch FC in the Round of 16 of this year’s Carling Knockout Cup competition.

The two teams were drawn against each other after a seeded draw that saw teams that finished in the top 8 meet teams that finished in the bottom half at the end of last season.

This is the second meeting between Amakhosi and Stellies this season after locking horns in the season’s opener at the Athlone Stadium. Chiefs collected maximum points after scoring two goals with no response from the hosts back in August.

With history and stats favouring Amakhosi who have 10 wins, four draws and only three losses, the Glamour Boys will fancy their chances of advancing to the quarterfinals of the years competition.

Following midweek’s 1-1 draw against AmaZulu at FNB stadium, Chiefs have made one change, which will see Rwanda’s number 1, Fiacre Ntwari start his first game of the season ahead of the FIFA international break. He comes on for Brandon Petersen who will not feature in today’s match.

The team will maintain the 4-2-3-1 formation which was used on Wednesday.

Fiacre starts as the goalie.

The back four is unchanged with Bradley Cross on the left, Inacio Miguel and Zitha Kwinika at the centre and Dillan Solomons on the right hand side of Amakhosi’s defence.

The midfield combination of Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo remains.

Pule Mmodi is on the left-wing, Wednesday’s goalscorer Mduduzi Shabalala in the middle and Glody Lilepo on the right wing

Khanyisa Mayo leads the attack.

This afternoon’s referee is Alfred Chavani. He is assisted by Happy Nhlanhla and Elphas Sitole. The fourth official is Msimelei Mabuto.

The Carling Knockout match between Amakhosi and the Winelands team will commence at 15:00 at DHL Stadium. The match will be live on PSL’s Channel DStv channel 202, with live commentary on most SABC radio stations. There will be live updates on the Club’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account, @kaizerchiefs.
