Duba Starts for Chiefs Against Arrows

After a 0-0 draw against Moroka Swallows on Saturday night, Kaizer Chiefs are in action again this evening as they face Lamontville Golden Arrows in another DStv Premiership fixture at FNB Stadium.

Amakhosi, who are unbeaten in their last six league matches, will try to win their first match of the year after drawing their last two fixtures of 2024. Arrows, on the other hand, are also desperate for a win after losing their last nine consecutive matches.

Chiefs are 6th on the log after 18 matches, with 26 points in the kitty; while Arrows are in 10th spot, with 23 points from their 18 games.

After coming on in the second in the previous match, Kaizer Chiefs Youth Academy Development product Wandile Duba will be given his first start by coach Cavin Johnson this evening. He will replace Ranga Chivaviro in the line up.

Duba is one five changes that Coach Johnson is making when compared to the team that started the previous game.

At the back, Chiefs will have to do without dependable defender Edmilson Dove, who was shown a red card in the last match against Swallows. He is replaced by Njabulo Ngcobo. Another change at the back sees S’fiso Hlanti return to the line up as he comes one for Happy Mashiane.

In midfield, Sibongiseni Mthethwa will come in for Edson Castillo, and Ashley Du Preez makes way for Christian Saile in attack.

Interestingly, defender Luke Fleurs, who was signed last year, will be on the bench as he makes the match-day squad for the first time since his arrival at the Kaizer Chiefs Village.

Chiefs will again go with their trusted 4-2-3-1 formation.

Bruce Bvuma is the goalkeeper.

At the back, Hlanti will be on the left, Njabulo Ngcobo and Given Msimango at centre-back and Zitha Kwinika will be at right-back.

Yusuf Maart will work with Mthethwa as holding midfielders.

Pule Mmodi will play from the left, with Keagn Dolly in the middle and Saile running from the right of Amakhosi’s attack.

19-year-old Duba leads the attack this evening.

Maart will captain the team.

The referee is Thando Ndzandzeka. His assistants are Zakhele Siwela and Given Letlaka. The fourth official is Oscar Tsotetsi.

The DStv Premiership encounter between The Glamour Boys and Abafana Bes’thende will be start at 19:30 at FNB Stadium in Nasrec. The match is live on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv and SABC radio stations - with regular updates of the match on X (Twitter) @KaizerChiefs.
