Kaizer Chiefs Ladies continued their encouraging start to the Gauteng Women's Provincial League campaign with two hard-fought draws over a demanding weekend of back-to-back fixtures against Emmarentia Pirates and Wits University, respectively. The Glamour Girls maintained their steady progress in the league and continue to demonstrate encouraging signs in both performance and attacking intent.

Saturday's encounter against Emmarentia Pirates at Delta Park School ended in a 1-1 draw. Chiefs started brightly and were rewarded in the first half when midfielder Zanele Kunyamane maintained her impressive form with her second goal of the season when she found the back of the net to give Amakhosi the lead.

The advantage, however, was short-lived as the home side responded minutes later to level matters. Despite creating numerous opportunities throughout the match, Chiefs were unable to convert their dominance into additional goals and had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Head Coach Unathi Mabena remains encouraged by the team's attacking display, highlighting that the number of chances created reflected the work being done on the training ground.

"The opportunities we are creating are a positive sign for the team. We are getting into good positions and creating chances consistently. The next step is improving our efficiency in front of goal,” Mabena says, “But the foundation is there and the players continue to work hard."

Less than 24 hours later, Chiefs returned to action for a challenging home fixture against Wits University at Tsakane Stadium.

In another entertaining contest, the team once again enjoyed large spells of possession and created several promising opportunities against one of the league's strongest sides. Wits also posed a threat going forward, resulting in an open and competitive match.

Despite both teams creating clear cut chances, neither side could find the breakthrough as the match concluded in a goalless draw. The fixture was played in front of another enthusiastic crowd, with Amakhosi supporters turning out in numbers to rally behind the team.

The results leave Kaizer Chiefs Ladies with nine points from six matches, having recorded two wins, three draws and one defeat so far this season. Attention now turns to next weekend's fixture against North West University as they continue their pursuit of a strong position on the league table.
