Kaizer Chiefs begin their quest for the Carling Knockout Cup this evening when they face TS Galaxy in the Round of 16 at FNB Stadium. The competition is the PSL’s second major knockout trophy, and Amakhosi supporters are demanding victory tonight to ensure their team’s place in the quarterfinal draw.
Chiefs welcome back key players from injury, with Brandon Petersen returning to the starting line-up after a lengthy absence, replacing Bruce Bvuma in goal. Another significant comeback is that of Rushwin Dortley, who last featured more than a season ago on 1 March 2025. He slots in for Inacio Miguel. Lebohang Maboe also returns, taking the place of Thulani Mabaso, after coming off the bench in the last outing against Red Arrows. Friday’s goalscorer Bradley Cross makes way for Paseka Mako, while Faiz Abrahams drops out for Mfundo Vilakazi.
Coach Fernando Da Cruz has retained his preferred 4-3-3 formation.
Petersen resumes his role between the posts.
Mako starts at left back, Dortley partners Thabo Moloisane in central defence, and Reeve Frosler occupies the right-back position.
Sibongiseni Mthethwa holds the midfield, supported by Mduduzi Shabalala and Maboe.
Up front, Pule Mmodi runs from the left wing, Vilakazi takes the right, and Wandile Duba leads the attack.
The referee is Siyabulela Qunta, and is assisted by Elphas Sitole and Lalelani Mngani. The fourth official being Abraham Mashala.
Petersen will captain the side.
The last 16 Carling Knockout match between Amakhosi and Galaxy starts at 19:00 at FNB stadium in Nasrec. The game will be live on and SuperSport’s Channel 205 on DStv as well as various SABC radio stations. The Club will provide live commentary on X (formerly known as Twitter).
