Wandile Duba became the 24th player to score a trio of goals in a game for Chiefs since 1996/97 when his hattrick in Chiefs’ 3-0 win over TS Galaxy earlier in the week in the Carling Knockout Cup, saw them through to the quarterfinals, where they will face Siwelele.
Duba was the first Chiefs player to score three goals in a game for Chiefs since Caleb Bimenyimana made history when he became the first player in the PSL era to score a hattrick of penalty kicks in a 3-1 league win against Stellenbosch in 2022.
In the PSL era, Duba was the 19th Chiefs player to score a hattrick in all competitions, although he’s the first to do so in the Carling Knockout Cup. He was the first Chiefs player to score three times in a Knockout cup game since Marks Maponyane did so against Durban City in 1987.
The last player to score two hattricks in one season is Kaizer Motaung Jnr, who is the Sporting Director. He netted the goals in 2006/07 against Maritzburg United and Bloemfontein Celtic.
Five seasons of the PSL era have seen Chiefs players score multiple hattricks over the course of a campaign. Pollen Ndlanya did it twice (1996/97 and 1998/99), John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu scored two hattricks in 2003/04 (against Black Leopards and Zulu Royals), and the following season it was Colins Mbesuma who scored his two hattricks against Dynamos and Sundowns in 2004/05.
Ndlanya has scored four hattricks for Chiefs in the PSL era, the most of any player.
According to the Club’s verified historical records, Ace Ntsolengoe leads the way with 14 recorded hattricks for Kaizer Chiefs in all competitions.
