Ndlovu embraces pressure of playing for Amakhosi

Fresh from scoring the winning goal against Polokwane City last Tuesday to maintain Kaizer Chiefs’ perfect start to the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, Siphesihle Ndlovu sat down with www.kaizercheifs.com for a brief chat, as he prepares for the next challenge, a home match at FNB Stadium against Richards Bay this coming Tuesday:

What does joining Kaizer Chiefs mean to you?

It was my father’s dream for me to play for the club he has always supported and since the age of about 17 or 18, I have wanted to fulfil that ambition. Right now, he is very happy and so excited, which means the world to me.

A while back I missed out on a chance to come here, so I said to myself I will still work hard to hopefully get the opportunity again, so when it did come, I was thrilled to finally sign for Amakhosi.

Immediately, I was thinking, “Then what?”, because I am the type of person who always looks ahead to what is coming. So, for me, it’s a new chapter in my life and career, a new journey that I am taking.

How did it feel to actually get onto the field for your debut (against Stellenbosch FC)?:

Obviously, there are some nerves, but generally I am a very calm person by nature. When I was called to come on, I thought, “Okay, this is pressure. What do you do under pressure? You stay calm”. The people I have around me play a big role in keeping me calm, which I really appreciate. As a footballer, you want to play in front of big crowds, so I embrace the massive support this Club has and I am happy to go out and play my best football. I don’t have to prove myself to anybody; I just want to enjoy my football and serve the Club with honesty and give everything I have to the cause.

On scoring Amakhosi’s winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Polokwane City in only his second appearance:

It was a great feeling. Everyone who played in the first half did their jobs so it was up those of us who came on to finish it. That’s why the goal is special for me, because it came at the right time. That’s what I call ‘making your mark’.

How do Chiefs sustain their positive start to the season?:

Unity is key. I cannot emphasise that enough. We have to stick together no matter what happens, because we are going to experience difficult times during games. But, if we are unified, we can come through any adversity. We all play for each other and when one guy isn’t on top of his game, which happens to everyone at some stage, the rest of us have to step up and do a bit extra. We have all got each other’s backs.
