RADEBE ON CHIEFS’ YOUNG GUNS IN ENGLAND

Kaizer Chiefs legend and former Leeds United and Bafana Bafana captain, Lucas Radebe, was in attendance as the Amakhosi DDC side drew 1-1 with Leeds United’s U/21 team during their UK tour on Tuesday, 2 December 2025.

The match brought together two clubs that shaped Radebe’s career, and he welcomed the competitive edge shown by both sides. ‘Rhoo’ watched closely, not as a spectator, but as a custodian of two proud football institutions.

“I think it’s great seeing the two teams together,” he said. “It’s never really a friendly. There’s a lot for both sides to learn from each other, especially in terms of different playing styles.”

The Chiefs youngsters were tested but responded well over the 90 minutes, earning a valuable result against their Premier League academy counterparts. Radebe stressed the importance of what the tour represents beyond the result.

“This is a great opportunity for them,” he said. “They represent a big club. It’s about passion and creating more opportunities for themselves, not only in South Africa, but also abroad while carrying the Kaizer Chiefs name with pride.”

Radebe’s own journey, from the streets of Soweto to becoming one of Leeds United’s most respected captains, echoes quietly in the background of his words. He knows what opportunities exposure can unlock. That exposure continues later this evening with the Chiefs delegation attending the English Premier League match between Leeds United and Chelsea, where the young players will get a first-hand look at the demands of the highest level.

“I’m excited for them to be there. It will be special to experience that environment with them. And yes, they must support Leeds,” Radebe concluded with a smile.
