Nike and Kaizer Chiefs Launch New 2017/18 Home and Away Jersey

The new Kaizer Chiefs Home and Away kits for the 2017/18 season were unveiled on Thursday, 13 July. The jerseys feature a modern aesthetic, personifying the club’s heritage alongside a fresh application of the club’s signature Gold & Black.

“Kaizer Chiefs and Nike have created a new kit that is in line with our image and brand values. The technological advances and the stylish look of the jerseys will help enhance the boys’ performance on the field and they will certainly look as glamorous as ever,” says Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director Jessica Motaung.

The Home jersey stands out in its hallmark taxi gold with an understated block pattern extending from the round neck collar to the sleeve cuffs. The jersey is paired with taxi gold shorts and socks.

The sides of the kit feature a black stripe that runs the length of the jersey and shorts, which expand when the player is in motion to maximise ventilation and amplify the effect of speed.

The all black Away jersey is accentuated with gold narrow horizontal stripes on the front and back of the bodice, with a gold round neck collar. The kit is completed with black shorts and taxi gold socks.

The kit features high-performance materials and lightweight construction crafted to enhance ventilation and moisture management, and increase the athletes’ ease of motion and precision.

After many years of requests from the female support base, a new addition to this year’s collection and launch is the new and iconic women’s jersey. This jersey is tailored differently for women’s fit and ladies will not need to worry about wearing male designs anymore.

“We are particularly excited about the launch of a women’s jersey. We have been working hard to ensure that our ladies also receive a jersey that is designed specifically for them to fit comfortably. Our female support base is huge and it was imperative for us to not forget about them as they have been asking for a jersey for a while,” adds Motaung.”

Nike leverages sustainable innovation for its football kits through the use of recycled polyester, delivering unrivaled performance and lower environmental impact. The kit’s shirt and shorts are constructed with recycled polyester fabric, which is made from recycled plastic bottles melted down to produce a fine yarn.

Each kit is made using approximately 16 recycled plastic bottles. Since 2010, Nike has diverted more than three billion plastic bottles from landfills into recycled polyester, enough to cover about 5,200 football pitches.

The Home kit will be available in Kaizer Chiefs retail stores at the headquarters in Naturena, Tramshed in Pretoria and online through kcdigistore.com starting 14 July. The jerseys will be available from Nike Stores and Totalsports from Monday, 17 July.

Motaung thanked the club’s longstanding partners Nike for their collaboration and immense contribution to our mutually beneficial partnership over the last 16 years.

She concluded by saying: “We call on supporters to only purchase their jersey from our retail outlets, kcdigistore.com and reputable retail stores to ensure they purchase an authentic jersey and receive value for their hard-earned money.”

The First Team will debut the Home kit in their Carling Black Label Champion Cup match against Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, 29 July.
